‘The Six Swans’ // Linocut print
‘The Six Swans’ is a relief print based on a fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers. In the fairy tale, a king who has seven children, six boys and one girl, gets lost in the woods and comes across a witch. When he asks the witch for directions, she says will show him the way out on one condition: that he marries her daughter. He fulfils her demand, but tries to keep his children away from their stepmother. However, the witch’s daughter eventually finds the children and casts a spell over them, turning the six boys into swans.
