‘Breakaway’ // Linocut print
‘Breakaway’ is an original linocut print designed, carved, and printed by myself with my own etching press. Variations between prints are minor. All prints have four ripped edges.
This print is a collaboration project between Iris Slappendel and me. Iris has her own brand of cycling clothing, www.i-ris.cc. I have worked with her before to design a cycling jersey but this time she asked me to make a design for a casual t-shirt. Iris is the executive director of an organisation called The Cyclists’ Alliance: ‘Run by former and current pros, The Cyclists’ Alliance provides holistic support to female cyclists during and after their careers. Funded purely by donations and subscriptions, our aim is to level the playing field and help the hard-working women of today’s peloton make a living from the sport. There’s a long way to go, but by striving for fairness, we will create a brighter future for all.’
Iris asked five designers to work on creating five different t-shirts inspired by, and to support women’s cycling. They made fifty shirts of each design, €5 of every sold shirt will go to The Cyclists’ Alliance. All the rad shirts you can get at Iris’ shop.
I made a limited run of 50 linocut prints, and also €5 of every sold print I’ll donate to TCA.
